Founded in 1804, Cranberry Township was named for the cranberry bushes that grew in abundance throughout the bogs of the area. In the 1950's with the completion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and improvement of Route 19, the population began a steady upward growth, escalating in the 80's and continuing to expand today.
